Things have been a bit crazy for me—I just began my campaign for U.S. Senate for Maryland—so I apologize for the lack of Raw posts. And I may elaborate on this theme in a more formal article, but it’s just bonkers to me that Biden’s polls are averaging a little over 41% approval, a bit under 54% disapproval, per Five Thirty Eight’s weighted average.
Five Thirty Eight
This screams several things to me, but chief among them: ignorance, fantastical expectations matched with a lack of grasp on reality, and terrible media coverage.
I’m proud to consider myself a member of the Biden-Pelosi-Schumer wing of the Democratic Party. Under the first half of Biden’s term, as I have noted before, Biden and Democrats in Congress got more substantive legislation passed in a two-year period than at any time since LBJ was president in the 1960s, were the most disciplined, unified political party across both chambers of Congress at the same time in American history, and tied for the 5th best performance for midterm elections in modern U.S. history, the only four times incumbents performing better—under both Bushes, FDR, and JFK—all with extraordinarily positive conditions while Biden and Democrats in 2022 faced headwinds.
